Top Shelf Reserve Barrel Aged Negroni
The Negroni has gained popularity in the last decade becoming one of the most ordered cocktails in cocktail bars. It’s a very simple recipe consisting of only 3 ingredients and a garnish. Traditionally, this is what we would call an equal parts cocktail, consisting of equal parts, gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Changing the gin and vermouth can change the character of this cocktail. This cocktail is considered an aperitivo (a drink you have before a meal) due to the bitterness provided by the Campari, which aids digestion. Using Top Shelf Reserve Barrel Aged Gin will add some class to the already classy Negroni, and by reducing the intake of Campari by just a smidge, the bitterness is reduced for a more balanced cocktail recipe. If you wish to try a less bitter version of this cocktail, you may swap out the Campari for some Aperol, a slightly less bitter aperitivo very similar to Campari. The herbs of the vermouth play excellently with the Top Shelf Reserve Barrel Aged Gin botanicals as the citrus from the Campari accents the grapefruit and caramelized orange notes.
