JULY NEWSLETTER

JULY NEWSLETTER

As you may have noticed by now,  after 18 months of our cocktail subscription service, we've decided to go digital. This wasn't an easy decision to make, but we think it's the right one for Mother Nature.

Below you'll find the July newsletter and all 4 cocktail recipes of the month.

The SURPRISE ME option is GIN this month

STILLS, SPIRITS & WORDS FROM THE WISE

We love cocktails (as you may have guessed) and a huge part of cocktailing is an easy-to-follow recipe. We've made the decision to go paperless with cocktail recipes in our subscription boxes and cocktail kits.
It takes 1,476 litres of oil to produce one ton of paper. We print a lot of cocktail recipe cards every year and going paperless is one measure we can implement quickly to compliment our environmental initiatives like #MoreTrees and #NoMowMay.

We know an easily accessible recipe is an important part of your subscription box and cocktail kits. We've created this exclusive cocktail recipe section for our website to make following the steps for each cocktail recipe easier and shareable, so you can share the cocktails you love with your friends.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to let us know. Have any feedback? We'll take it! We want to hear how we can make this transition a pleasant experience for you.

PAYING IT FORWARD

This past month we participated in Taste for Hope in Ottawa at Lansdowne Park. Shepherds of Good Hope create impact and make a difference for those who need it most. Taste for Hope was a curated evening of delicacies, delights and donations all in support of the programs and services Shepherds of Good Hope provides for those who experience homelessness in our city. Taste for Hope features local renowned chefs preparing signature dishes — accompanied by libations from local craft breweries, vineyards and spirit companies. Top Shelf was thrilled to be a part!

We supplied 2 recipes for the attendees featuring Top Shelf Vodka and Top Shelf Cream Puff Liquor. It was a huge success despite having a tornado warning in effect. There was a live auction with a multitude of offerings such as rooftop parties at local restaurants to help raise funds. Event was a huge success raising more funds than previous event! Thanks to all who joined :)

    Blueberry Punch Cocktail Image

MOONSHINE

    Blueberry Punch

Gone are the days of mom making a pitcher of that mysterious red punch for the neighborhood kids to enjoy as we play outside. Every house had that one special pitcher, with their favourite punch prepared inside it. No one really knew what kind of punch it was, nor did it matter. We were young and we were thirsty from chasing each other around the block and it was the thirst quenching, fruity kick of sugar we all needed at the time. The Blueberry Punch cocktail is a fruit packed adult approved fruit punch that will have you thinking back on the days you would have a red juice mustache over your lip and beg your parents to order you a shirley temple at the restaurant.

        Pretty in Pink Cocktail Image

GIN / SURPRISE ME

        Pretty In Pink

Simple to make and easy to drink, this cocktail is refreshingly tangy, floral and a touch fruity. Top Shelf Gin’s floral properties are complimented with a few dashes of Top Shelf Blueberry Bitters. The gin’s aromatic notes are complemented with fresh raspberry flavours and a touch of citrus, the perfect fruit combination to pair with gin, more so Top Shelf gin, with its fresh grapefruit properties. A bit of lime flavour and some fresh lemon juice makes for a brightly flavoured thirst quencher. Sweetened with honey syrup instead of traditional simple syrup, the local Ontario honey brings forth a richer flavour and an earthy tone that ties the cocktail together. Pretty In Pink is an approachable cocktail that will fancy just about any palate.

          Summer Staycation Cocktail lmage

VODKA

          Summer Staycation

Nothing says summer flavour like the classic combination of coconut and pineapple. Inspired by the Pina Colada and the Chi Chi cocktails, the Summer Staycation is the perfect summer refresher either at the cottage, on your patio or anytime you wish you were anywhere but “here”. Let go of everyday stress with this vacation in a glass, in the comfort of your own home. Fresh and bright flavours of pineapple and lime with a hint of effervescence keep things oh so refreshing. Grenadine serves as a sweetener and creates a beautiful gradient effect making this a super sexy, 80’s style cocktail. Disco drinks are making a comeback, so it’s time to whip out the grenadine and mini umbrellas once more! In this recipe we play with infusions. You will be flavouring your Top Shelf Vodka with some coconut. This takes a day or two, so if you need a vacation right now, you can skip the infusion, but you will be missing out on half of the delicious tropical flavours this cocktail has to offer.

              Spiked Ice Mocha Cocktail lmage

WHISKY

              Spiked Iced Mocha

When it comes to coffee cocktails, Irish Coffee is right up there on the top of the list. Mostly enjoyed after dinner or on a cool winter day, coffee and whisky have always made a formidable pair. Alongside the Irish Coffee, the Espresso Martini has been making its mark in restaurants and bars all over the world for the past few years, a trend that is showing no sign of slowing down. Taking the idea of the irish coffee, but served cold like the Espresso Martini, the Spiked Iced Mocha is a refreshing, chocolaty take on the classic coffee and whisky combinations we’ve all enjoyed in the past. Demerara syrup brings a full flavoured caramelized sweetness and a splash of chocolate milk brings an approachable creaminess to the mix.
