Orgeat (Almond) Syrup
Deliciously unique, this orgeat (almond) syrup is a must-know for fans of tiki-style cocktails. It features nutty almond flavours with a rich sweetness fortified by cognac or whisk(e)y, topped off with light citrus notes from orange blossom water. A work of art in its complexity, this isn't your average simple syrup.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tbsp almond extract
- ½ tsp orange blossom water
- ¼ cup (2 oz) cognac or whisk(e)y
DIRECTIONS
- Add almond milk to a sauce pan and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.
- Once simmering, add sugar.
- Stir for 1–2 minutes.
- Add cognac or whisk(e)y.
- Stir until all sugar is fully dissolved.
- Remove from heat and let cool at room temperature.
- Store in an airtight container (glass works best).
- Refrigerate.
