Orgeat (Almond) Syrup

 


Deliciously unique, this orgeat (almond) syrup is a must-know for fans of tiki-style cocktails. It features nutty almond flavours with a rich sweetness fortified by cognac or whisk(e)y, topped off with light citrus notes from orange blossom water. A work of art in its complexity, this isn't your average simple syrup.


INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tbsp almond extract
  • ½ tsp orange blossom water
  • ¼ cup (2 oz) cognac or whisk(e)y

DIRECTIONS

  1. Add almond milk to a sauce pan and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.
  2. Once simmering, add sugar.
  3. Stir for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Add cognac or whisk(e)y.
  5. Stir until all sugar is fully dissolved.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool at room temperature.
  7. Store in an airtight container (glass works best).
  8. Refrigerate.
    Keeps for two weeks.
