Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge

Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge

Top Shelf has signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge, to demonstrate our commitment to improving our economic, social, and environmental sustainability between now and 2030. Our distillery acts as a tourist destination in Ontario’s Lanark Highlands, and we plan to reduce our impact on the environment and continue to benefit local communities and economies by sustainably showcasing the region’s terroir in our whisky.

The UN World Tourism Organization defines sustainable tourism as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities.”

Each year, we commit to measuring and improving our sustainability performance in the following ways:

  • Continue to support local communities and businesses by buying local ingredients and supplies for our spirits

  • Support the transition of our local grain source to regenerative agriculture practices

  • Measure our water and energy consumption and identify ways to improve efficiency, lower production costs, and reduce our carbon footprint

We sincerely believe in using our business as a platform for real, action-oriented change. Corporations locally and globally have done a lot of damage to the environment and our communities, and we are aiming to change that.
